Classic Film Heroines

March 2, 2012

Over the weekend Craig sent me a link to a new blog he discovered called Classic Film Heroines. The blog is dedicated to classic film women from the 1900′s to 1960′s. I have been having so much fun scrolling through the archives and gaining inspiration from these beautiful womans style. Of course the 1920′s and 1930′s pics are my favorite. I love looking at the way these woman styled themselves in their real life and movie lives.

When I think about the jewelry of designers Lizzie Fortunato Jewels and Dannijo color is the thought that comes to mind. These girls are not afraid to work with color and they do it so well. Their jewelry styles are very cheerful and happy and that is why I love it. jewelry is meant to be fun and make you feel good and these gals sure know their craft by now. Dannijo has a vintage vibe to their designs. I love how they work with rhinestones and crystals which is very reminiscent of the 1950′s but they make it more modern by adding alot of metal. LFJ has a crafty more fashion vibe because they not only work with jewelry but also incorporate other elements in their designs such as fabric. When I look through their work all i want to do is try and recreate the jewelry and throw a DIY jewelry party. It is so great to find fellow designers out there who truly inspire me to keep on designing and trying new things. Below are some of my favorites from their collections.

Rooney Mara

February 28, 2012

Happy Monday,

I watched only a little bit of the red carpet before I turned all oscar madness off and was blown away by Rooney Maras style. It wasnt even the dress that did it for me. It was her personal style, the hair and the makeup. I am in love with her hair style. I love the black hair on her with the straight across bangs and red lips. She has a sort of old hollywood glamour to her which I don’t see often today. She could be living in the 30′s or 40′s and the clothing she chooses to wear just works soo well with her look. I am definitely going to take some inspiration from her by getting bangs again sometime soon and matching them with a bold red lip.

loving this dress, especially the unexpected back

love the orange

love this dress

dying over her lip color

need to make a trip to the salon soon

Rejoice The Hands

February 24, 2012

I discovered jewelry company Rejoice The Hands while browsing the blog jewelry whore. I am a big fan of native american style jewelry, especially when I can find them vintage but they are usually crazy expensive. RTH jewelry style is just up my alley and the prices are great. Not too expensive. My favorites below.

I am seriously blown away by this line. The jewelry is well made, beautiful, and so unbelievably priced. I want it all and would wear proudly.

American Gold

February 23, 2012

This is a little funny. I wrote about label American Gold before and checked in my archives to verify. The point of this post is that I am sick and tired of the damn winter. I hate with a passion the cold and detest being bundled in my puffer coat day after day. I feel much more me and free in no jacket and just a dress with some boots. I swear I need to move to another state with lots of sunshine and a very mild winter. Any how when I checked the archives I wrote the post the day before I was leaving on vacation for Puerto Rico and I swear my heart sank just a bit when I read that. I need the warmth so bad right now and would love to go on a tropical vacation just about now. I guess I will have to dream about it but below are some favorite dresses I wish I was wearing outside!

Lets all wish for 75 degrees in NYC at the same time. Maybe we can will it to happen?

Monet Bracelet

February 22, 2012

I am loving the look of a chunky gold mens style watch worn with lots of gold bracelets. I guess i love the mix of masculine and feminine worn all at once. I have slowly been building up my bracelet collection since it was lacking and have some new ones that I really love. I guess i am on the hunt for vintage bracelets because you know I think vintage is better. I love the look of a gold tone vintage bracelet either very chunky and ornate or small and delicate. They look so beautiful worn together and i always use jewelry to dress up my outfits. I found some favorites on Ebay, take a look.

Frederique Morrel

February 13, 2012

I had an amazing time last week at the Sleep No More show for my birthday. I don’t want to give anything away but it was an incredible experience unlike anything I have ever been a part of. I would love to go again and for those who have yet to see it, please run. The show ends in April I think. The only thing I will say is that the rooms are decorated in 1930′s design and you know me, I love all things vintage. Especially walking into vintage style homes. One of the rooms that inspired this post was the taxidermy room. The room was covered in stuffed animals. I am not a big fan of taxidermy but I love when it is done in a different creative way. Meaning no real animals were used in the process. Artists Frederique Morrel creates the most amazing faux taxidermy animals I have ever seen. The animals are carved out of foam and covered in vintage tapestries. Below are some of my favorites. They are simply stunning.

Happy Birthday To Me

February 8, 2012

Hi All,

Today is my 30th birthday and I am very excited to be pretend styling myself for the occasion in black tie looks! Tonight we are celebrating by going to the play Sleep No More and I seriously can not wait. I think it would be really fun to dress up but we will be on our feet for three hours exploring so that won’t happen. Will have to be comfort dressing all the way. Below are three different looks that I styled for different faux parties. If I learned anything from Rachel Zoe it would be that you need to have many options and different looks. Each theme is a mix of modern and vintage clothing and accessories. Please feel free to click on my pinterest for links.

This is the outfit that I would wear to see Sleep No More if money was of no concern and I had the strength to spend three hours in heels. I went with a vintage flapper dress for the occasion since the play is supposed to take place in the 20′s or 30′s. With some Deco jewelry and crazy spike shoes. This outfit is a little bit Victorian goth and I love it!

For my second party I would love to spend it on a cruise vacation. My birthday would fall on formal night and we would dress up for a fancy dinner and then go to the broadway style show afterwards. The day would have been spent on the beach in the Bahamas. I went with a loud color blocking dress since I love to wear long colorful dresses on vacation. The more color the better with lots of beautiful vintage stunning jewelry and a vintage shawl for even more pop!

For my last party I went with a bohemian but lux outfit with the long kaftan style dress. And a mix of beautiful silver accessories. I think it is perfectly ok to mix gold with silver and opted for vintage gold jewelry with emeralds. This party would be spent somewhere exotic like in Greece which is one of the spots we hit on our honeymoon two years ago. It was so beautiful there and I miss it. I am definitely dreaming of my next vacation even though I have no idea when that will be happening.
