I had a great time pretend acting as personal shopper to both Megan and Betty from Mad Men. For the last in this series I of course had to work with Joan and found both vintage and modern items to dress her in. Joan is definitely one of my favorite characters on the show. I love how confident she is around both men and women. It is so refreshing to see a woman on T.V. who is not a stick figure and actually looks like a woman should look. I love how she chooses to wear clothing that shows off her figure rather than hide it. And I love how you can always find her in bright colors and her signature pencil necklace while in the office. Below are the items I chose for Joan. Click on my pinterest board for links on where to buy them.

Dresses

I am a big fan of the wiggle dress. I love how it is sexy but not over the top and it shows off the right parts of a womans figure. Joan always looks amazing in them.
Shoes and Purses

For Joans accessories I used a mixture of both vintage and modern staying true to her style. I went bold with color to give her outfits a punch.
Jewels

For jewelry I used all vintage costume and chose pieces that were statement makers in the red, blue, green, and coral family. Those colors look amazing with her bright red hair.

Last week I had a great time pretend styling Megan Draper in a mixture of both vintage and modern fashions. I had even more fun working on Betty this week because I love her feminine style. Betty reminds me of a doll with her light blonde locks and big poofy tea style dresses. She always looks polished and very put together. The looks that I found for Betty are really reminiscent of the first couple seasons of Mad Men when she was married to Don and went to a lot of work functions and parties. I really enjoyed her character and was pretty disappointed when they gave her less and less screen time the last couple of seasons. I think my favorite Betty moment is when she accused Don of having an affair and spent days in her party dress wandering around the house in tears snooping through his things. have a look below at the clothing and accessories I would love to style Betty in. Click on my pinterest board for links of all the items.

favorite Betty moment
Dresses

My favorite vintage dress here is the white with over sized pink and green flowers. It is such a princess dress and perfect for Betty who is like a real life Barbie doll. I especially love the giant velvet green bow tie right underneath the breast.
Shoes and Purses

I decided to go with modern shoes and vintage purses for betty’s accessories. Since the dresses she wears have a lot of color and pattern already I wanted the accessories to be more neutral but still feminine. I chose pieces that had rhinestone, glitter, beading, and floral.
Jewels

My favorite part of dressing Betty is of course the vintage jewelry I found. I love to see Betty in a big statement necklace such as a the three strand pearl above. The strawberry necklace adds a little humor to her put together style.
Stay tuned next week for the last of the Mad Men series. Who do you think I have decided to style?
Lauren

Even though the Mad Men season ended weeks ago, I am still so inspired by the ladies fashion each and every day. Whenever I go vintage shopping I always keep the girls styles in mind. Especially if I find a cute 60′s dress or vintage jewels. I thought it would be fun to make style collages for some of my favorite female characters. I picked both a mixture of vintage and modern clothing and accessories and broke it all down into categories. The items can all be mixed and matched together for different outfits. Please click on my pinterest board for links to all of the items since everything is indeed for sale.
I definitely love Megan’s style the most because she dresses so young and carefree. The perfect clothing for an aspiring actress in her twenties. She wears a ton of cute mod style dresses as well as fun psychedelic maxi style dresses too and always looks amazing when she goes to an important work dinner. My favorite Megan outfit of all time though was when she wore the coral dress with matching white and coral coat. It looked amazing and I gasped in excitement when I saw it on-screen.

Dresses

The dresses I chose are all vintage, my favorites are the short black with metal trim and the stripe suit. I just love the color combo of red, blue, and black. The maxi dress would be perfect for one of Megan’s dinners that she is always dragged to.
Shoes and Purses

Almost all of the shoes are modern but I chose them because they have such a fun 1960′s feel to them. I love the black pair with the oversized buckles and the gold capped toe shoe as well. The purses are all vintage and are all so elegant and chic.
Jewels

You know me, I am a vintage jewelry gal so this is my favorite category. I would love to add those vintage lucite bracelets to my collection. I love the contrast with the rhinestone, they are so fun. The turquoise egyptian revival bib necklace is also another fave of mine and would look so good paired with the maxi dress.
Stay tuned next week for another favorite Mad Men character of mine

Happy Monday,
I watched only a little bit of the red carpet before I turned all oscar madness off and was blown away by Rooney Maras style. It wasnt even the dress that did it for me. It was her personal style, the hair and the makeup. I am in love with her hair style. I love the black hair on her with the straight across bangs and red lips. She has a sort of old hollywood glamour to her which I don’t see often today. She could be living in the 30′s or 40′s and the clothing she chooses to wear just works soo well with her look. I am definitely going to take some inspiration from her by getting bangs again sometime soon and matching them with a bold red lip.
loving this dress, especially the unexpected back

love the orange

love this dress

dying over her lip color

Alexa Chung will always be a style icon for me. She has such an effortless look and quality to her dressing which i just adore. I feel like I am always referancig her style when getting dressed in the morning or when shopping too. How would Alexa style this outfit? I feel like Alexa has two different looks when dressing herself. She either goes really girly with cute little dresses but will toughen up the look with boots and maybe a leather jacket. Or she is casual in jeans and a top. I thought it would be fun to play pertend stylist for the day and made a collage of how I would like to dress her with modern and vintage clothing and accecories. I went the feminine route with a little bit of masculin mixed in. Click on my pinterest board for links.
Chung Inspiration

I have two looks going on here. A day time and night time look
Day
I would pair the vintage 60′s blue and green dress with the leather jacket and black chelsea boots to make it a little more down town. For accecories the hat, Alexander Wang leopord bag, and sunnies.
Night
I am going for a little bit more of a glam look for night hense the black sequin dress, vintage faux leopord coat, and vintage Chanel backpack. Some studded lady like wedges, pamela love crystal necklace, and crytal ball ring and shes good to go!
Hope you enjoyed my new kind of style post. I have many more in the works with other gals and guys!

I will always love love love 1920′s fashion. I don’t know what it is about that decade but I just love the short hair, dark red lips, flapper dresses, sequins, fringe, pearls, jewelry, and hats. Whenever I come across 1920′s jewelry and its in my price range I pick it up. It is just so special. When the show Boardwalk Empire came out I was so excited because I thought the styling would be amazing just like on Mad Men. I was greatly disappointed. Not only do I hate the show, I am really turned off by all the gore and hate all of the murders, I also am unimpressed by the fashion. They don’t nearly show enough of that beautiful 1920′s dressing. You mostly see every day boring looks. I also recently watched the movie The Great Gatsby for the hundredth time, just love it and was blown away by the fashion. It was just that good. Lots of colors, beauty, rhinestone, sequins, I mean Daisy’s character always looked amazing. When I brought up to Craig that the styling was so much better in the movie he had something really clever to say. I was comparing the bourgeois (the wealthy people in the Gatsby) to the working class ( in Boardwalk Empire). But when I am watching T.V. i want a little more fantasy. I want to see more beauty and get lost in all of it for a little while, don’t you?
Gatsby
notice the milk glass necklace

my favorite look from the movie

I love how you can still get the look today by shopping vintage. I did some browsing on 1st Dibs and this is what I found. All perfect for Daisy

As your reading this I am at the dentist with Craig. He is getting three wisdom teeth pulled and we will be spending lots of time at home this weekend. four day weekend here we come.

Really loving the style of new comer Elizabeth Olsen. She has five movies coming out this year so I am excited to see all of the glamorous outfits she is going to wear. So far her style is pretty great. Lady like, feminine yet edgy still. I also love how she is not stick thin like so many of those other actresses out there. She has some healthy meat on her bones which is nice to see. And she is pretty lucky to have two sisters with two fab clothing lines out there to choose from. I searched one of my favorite blogs OLSENS ANONYMOUS to find some of my favorite picks.
love this Chanel ensemble. The baby pink is so beautiful and I like the contrast of a dark lip

can’t beat a maxi dress, classic

love this outfit. wonder if the necklace is vintage

love how modern this outfit is

so pissed everything was sold out from the Missoni for Target line. Thought it would be safe in Queens but all the ladies from the city ran over

The first time I dyed my hair I was nine on a cruise to the Caribbean. I was getting blonde highlights and since it was the early 90′s I had a very painful experience with the hair cap. Anyone else experience that. The stylist puts a rubber cap on your head covering all of your hair that has a bunch of holes all over. They then pull through the hole strands of your hair to get that highlight look and let me tell you it hurts like hell. Luckily that was the first and last time I used that cap and much prefered an all over color or foils any day. I didnt dye my hair again till I was in high school and went the blonde route again, I am naturally a brunette. This time I went for the skunk head look where huge sections of my hair were covered in blond color and foiled. Think of it as highlights on steroids. I must say it was not a good luck for me. I have had my hair all sorts of colors, full on blonde, highlights, copper highlights, red, all shades of brown, and even black. Which by the way was a color my grandmother hated. She did tell me that black color can give you brain cancer hoping that I would go blond again, it did not work though. Right now I am more in a natural phase, a brownish reddish all over color.
One color I never tried though were crazy colors, think manic panick, orange, yellow, bright red, green, blue, green. I so wanted to dye my hair with red kool aid in the 8th grade but then that look got banned from school and I never got to wear It. Still a little sad about that one.I am loving this whole new pastel hair look. Highlights, ombre, dip dye, of baby pink, purple, blue, and green. It has such a pretty feel to it. A little bit rebellious and daring but done in a much more classic lady like way. I would love to try it but don’t want to put my hair through the bleach process to achieve it. Will have to admire from afar.

What color do you like best?

Happy Monday,
I have started watching re runs of the OC on SoapNet and have really begun to enjoy the show again. The OC definitly had great characters and of course amazing fashion my favorite being summer. I love how her outfits always had a boheminan kind of vintage vibe to them. Rachel Bilson has the same kind of style in her real life as well. I think she is a little bit more classic then summer was wearing lots of blazers and jackets but she also rocks tons of dresses, great shoes, and accecories. Her closet is definitly one i want to raid immidiatly.
I am always a fan of a neuatral colored flat boot. I live in them from the fall through the spring

love the studded bag and boots

Sienna Miller has always been a huge style inspiration for me ever since 2004 when she graced the cover of Vogue for her fashion taste. She was a little bit more hippie bohemian back then with the bangs, long skirts, long hair which was probably my favorite look. I would say now she is a little more edgy rock and roll with some classic rolled in. My favorites below
