It has been about a year and a half since Craig and I moved to Austin and so far we have no regrets with our decision. So much so that back in April we began house hunting and as of the end of June signed a contract on a house. After a couple of weeks of searching we learned that we didn’t really like resale houses. Most of the homes we visited were out dated, needed alot of upgrades and were out of our price range. We decided to go with new construction and build our own house! I have been dreaming about not only owning but actually living in a house my entire life. I grew up in NYC living in apartments and have always fantasized about living in a two story house out in the suburbs with a fence and free from sharing walls with noisy neighbors. If we stayed in NYC there would be no way we could even afford to buy a house yet alone build one so we are so grateful and excited. Our house is in the beautiful suburb of Cedar Park and is only a 20 minute drive to downtown Austin. The foundation was just poured last week and this week they are starting the framing. We got to choose our indoor and outdoor finishes back in July and are truly designing the house of our dreams. Since I have been living in rentals for the last 10 years i have yet to paint my own walls and can not wait to paint my own home office. The only room in the house that will be extremely girly and yes pink! A nice light cotton candy pink with lots of framed pictures of Audrey Hepburn, Marilyn Monroe, and vintage pin ups gracing the walls. You can follow our house building journey on the blog and on pinterest too. Some inspiration for my pink room below.
